Dear Friends,

Over the years, Saratoga Springs has benefited from having City Court judges who know our community deeply, apply the law impartially, but with sensitivity, and are above political control. This year, we have an opportunity to continue that tradition with Jeffrey Wait. I am writing to ask for your help and support for Jeff, the endorsed Democratic Party and Independence Party candidate for the judgeship.

Because the City Judge serves a ten-year term, it is essential that we elect someone qualified, experienced, and above all, impartial. Jeff meets all those requirements. A lawyer for over twenty years, Jeff began his career as an Assistant District Attorney in Suffolk County. More recently, he served with distinction as Saratoga Springs City Attorney, ably managing the citys legal affairs for four years. Before and after that time, he has also ably represented corporate and private clients not only in state and federal courts, but also in local justice courts such as the City Court he would oversee as our judge, where his clients are often teenagers or young adults in trouble with the law for the first time. His familiarity with the legal system at all levels has made him an able negotiator and advocate, and he has always worked hard and with the utmost integrity to arrive at just solutions.

That brings me to Jeffs impartiality, the essential quality that must underlie the experience and wisdom of every judge. Jeffs friends and supporters come from every branch of the local spectrum; Democrats, Republicans, Conservatives, Liberals and Independents. They support Jeff because they know he will dedicate himself to judicial independence and to a fair and impartial decision making process. They know as well that he will be a judge who not only shows respect for the people appearing before him, but who will at the same time be responsive to the safety and best interests of the community.

The effective administration of justice requires public trust and confidence, and it requires judges who are prepared to be creative and to work to help solve problems, not just resolve cases. Throughout his career, Jeff has demonstrated that he has the knowledge, skills, insight and sensibility to be an effective and trusted judge.

Jeff Wait grew up in Saratoga Springs, as did his father and grandfather. He returned to the city as a young lawyer to raise his family and become involved in public life. His wish to serve on the City Court bench is surely a great measure of his dedication to us all. We believe Jeff Wait will make an excellent judge, but we need your help. Jeff faces a well-funded challenger in Septembers primary, and then an even better-funded opponent in November. It is clear to us, his supporters, that Jeff is the ideal candidate for City Court Judge.
